Entry #1: The World is Your Blog
Entry #1: The World is Your Blog
I intentionally thought that blogs were an outdated and relevant concept that served no purpose in society especially in the year 2023. And although it does seem like blogs for the most have their glory days behind them (as it is hard to find one that has made an updated post in the last 4 years) I now see the purpose that blogs can serve and why a person would make one.
I read three different blog websites. Words for Worms, The Dish, and Occupy Wall Street. I liked Words for Worms and Occupy Wall Street however, I did not like The Dish.
Words for Worms is a blog a book reviews. The author’s name is Katie and she reviews various different books of all different genres on her blog. What I liked about her blog is the writing style. Her reviews are very unserious and have personal antidotes. They’re informal and funny to read unlike a “professional” review which are often long and boring and make me uninterested in reading the book if anything. Katie’s reviews feel as though these books are being recommended to you in conversation with a friend.
Switching gears, I did not like The Dish for one simple reason, I didn’t understand it. The setup of the blog is confusing and you simply can not navigate it. I truly just don’t know what I’m looking at. This is supposed to be an informative political blog yet I haven’t learned a thing from this blog. There are links to random articles off to the side that have extremely vague and unhelpful titles. If you’re looking to find an article about something specific good luck, there simply is nothing of value to find as far as I can tell.
Lastly, Occupy Wall Street. The title gives it away but this blog is about the Occupy Wall Street movement of the early 2010s. There’r not much to look at in this blog simply because the Occupy Wall Street movement has died off. But, it gives a run down of what the movement is, how it started, and the “latest” information about the movement (I put latest in quotations because there hasn’t been an update on this blog since 2019.)
Overall, these three blogs provide a stark contrast to one another and show how blogs can take many different forms and have thousands if not millions of different purposes.
We definitely chose different blog styles but I do like the way you gave short but effective summaries.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your style of blog. Very straight to the point, neat, and insightful!
